
Born in Acaponeta, Nayarit in 1961. She holds a degree in Communication from Universidad Iberoamericana (UIA, 1983), where she also studied political science and public administration. Since then, she has been Press Secretary of the National Fund for Social Activities (Fonapas, 1978-1979), General Manager of the publishing house Jus (1983-1990), and Founder and General Director of publishing house Hoja (1990-2002). From May 2002 to March 2009, she was CEO of the Economic Culture Fund (FCE). In 2003, the Government of the Kingdom of Spain awarded Consuelo Sáizar the Civil Order of Merit Medal, ranking her as an Officer of the Great Cross. In 2008, she received the Emilia Ortiz Medal, awarded by the state of Nayarit to its illustrious citizens. In March 2009, she was named President of the National Council for Culture and the Arts (Conaculta). As of February 2010, she now presides the Executive Committee over the Regional Center for the Advancement of Books in Latin America and the Caribbean (Cerlalc). Finally, she is co-author of the book Shouts and Whispers, coordinated by Denise Dresser.
